Broadband is a faster, always-on connection and you pay a flat rate each month rather than paying for each minute used as you would on a dial-up connection. You also get up to 140x the speed of dial-up at its best.

How Does It Work?

Broadband has been designed to work over an existing telephone line without tying up the line. In effect the line is split in two so you can use Internet and voice or fax at the same time.

Some suppliers will try to charge much more for a connection that serves more than one computer but as it is unlikely that each will want to use the full connection speed all of the time, a router will share a single connection between all of the PCs in your office.

As a respected IT support company, Clear Networks’s broadband is backed up by our experienced technicians to give help and assistance in setting up and maintaining your connection.

Why Do I Need It?

The speed and reliability of broadband make it much less stressful to get the information you need and you won't have to wait for it. The 'Information Super Highway' really does live up to its name with broadband.

Whats All This Jargon?

Contention Ratio: the number of people sharing your connection. With many ISP's this can be as high as 50:1. Our highest ratio is 20:1.

Router: a device that can connect multiple computers to the Internet.

Static IP: it's like your telephone number on the Internet. If you have a server it will usually require a static IP. Most ISP's will change your IP as often as every 6 hours (this is referred to as a 'dynamic IP').

Unlimited Downloads: some ISP's slow your connection to the speed of dial-up when you reach a set limit each month.
